Calculator: Dell XPS 8700, Intel Core i7 4790 CPU @ 3.60 GHz, sixteen GB RAM (dual channel DDR3), "i TB" HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 graphics w/ 4 GB graphics RAM

O/S: Windows 10 Pro 64 fleck, version 1903, build 18362-418, latest CU was KB4517389 on 10/8/2019

AV and anti-malware: Windows Defender, Malwarebytes Premium

Trouble: I use Google Chrome as primary browser.  Every once in a while it will not load when I click the icon in the taskbar - the little spinning circle shows for a second or two and then zilch happens.  Trying to launch Chrome from the main Windows menu has the same result.  The only style to get Chrome back is to restart the computer.  When I do that, and then try to launch Chrome for the first time after restart, I first get a smallish window with "Y'all" in the middle.  Clicking on that then launches Chrome (information technology usually says it didn't close properly, exercise I want to reload whatever page I had been using before).  I can usually and so go on using Chrome for several days until this problem recurs - but today for case I've already had to restart twice.  I don't get the "Y'all" screen again until next fourth dimension I have to restart.  When it won't load, information technology won't load, no thing how frequently I try or by what route.  Restarting seems the just way to become it back.

This has been going on for some fourth dimension - information technology was already happening in Version 1803, then 1809, and now subsequently the recent upgrade to 1903 on 9/29/2019.

Later on a restart I unremarkably become a notification from WinPatrol that Chrome wants to load something at startup - it's a long circuitous command line and I'm afraid I didn't notation it downwardly.

If I check processes running in the background, using Task Manager, I get 100+ items, well-nigh 1-3% CPU usage, almost 27% memory usage (of sixteen GB!) and at to the lowest degree a vi entries for Google Chrome.  I plan to ask nearly that in a dissever thread, merely it might be relevant here.  I haven't looked at this with Process Explorer yet.

This is only a medium-sized nuisance (information technology takes about 3-4 minutes to restart) but I'd like at to the lowest degree to empathize it.

Does the problem persist if you reinstall Chrome?

Hm, not certain, can't remember last time I re-installed Chrome.  Best (safest) way to do that?  Have to keep passwords, bookmarks, losing either would be a huge disaster.

Description is like something which happened to me a few months ago.

Look for whatever Chrome in Task Manager and Stop them.  (Or was it Google, in the Chore Manager?)

Once I tried that, I was able to start Google Chrome.

The easiest way is to take Chrome sync turned on which backs upwardly all your settings/bookmarks/passwords/etc. If you lot have it turned on, yous can just reinstall Chrome and sign in again which volition restore everything.

If you don't have it turned on, you'll have to backup everything manually (i.east bookmarks, passwords, etc) then import them once again once you lot reinstall Chrome.

@cafejose

I found a number of Chrome items in Task Managing director.  Deleted the well-nigh recent 1 (that too was using the most resources).  After that Chrome started with no bug - then far (five days and counting).

@cafejose

I plant a number of Chrome items in Job Managing director.  Deleted the most contempo one (that besides was using the virtually resources).  Afterward that Chrome started with no issues - so far (five days and counting).

One of the things I thought was interesting, is that when I was having the trouble, and opened Task Manager, I saw a few Chrome or Google items in the list.  If I merely chose to End Job on One of them, the rest of them also ended.

I call back the same must accept happened on my organization too.  I merely now took a await with Task Manager.  There were NO tasks listed for Google or Chrome (of course I looked when I did Not have Chrome open).  Information technology was 5 days agone that I ended the one task (out of 6 or 8 that were listed) and could then open Chrome with no difficulty (which I have done dozens of times since).  I didn't then go back to Chore Manager to meet what happened to the other Chrome tasks listed.

Update to preceding: This morning I found I could not open links in Facebook posts.  Could likewise not commencement Chrome.  Went to Task Director, found about ten Chrome tasks, ended the adjacent to top 1 in the list.  That had no effect - the others did not disappear, and I could not open Chrome or the links in Facebook.  Went back to Task Manager and concluded the Chrome task at the lesser of the list.  That acquired all other Chrome tasks to disappear, and thereafter I could open Chrome and open links in Facebook.

I'm a scientist, and like to understand how things work.  Tin can anyone tell me what is going on here?

EDIT - the same matter (no admission to secondary links, which I suppose would be opened in Chrome) happened again a couple of hours afterward, and this time I had to end several of the Google Chrome tasks before I hit on the one that caused all the others to disappear and restored my Chrome access.

This problem is effectively solved, in the applied sense that when Chrome won't open, going to Chore Manager and ending one or more Chrome tasks eliminates all Chrome task entries and restores access to Chrome.  Starting time from the lesser of the listing in Task Manager - it'due south normally the bottom-most job or 1 just in a higher place it.

When I and so do open Chrome it usually says Chrome terminated abnormally, do I want to restore the pages that were and then open up?  I usually also get the "You" window on that occasion (only).  This might happen twice in one day, but more usually at intervals of 5 days to a week.  Going to Chore Director and catastrophe the bottom Chrome task takes only seconds, so it's no big deal.

I am, of class, curious about why the "abnormal termination" occurs.

This basically describes what has happened to me and what I did to restore Google Chrome:

This problem is effectively solved, in the practical sense that when Chrome won't open, going to Task Manager and catastrophe 1 or more than Chrome tasks eliminates all Chrome task entries and restores access to Chrome.  Outset from the bottom of the listing in Chore Manager - it's usually the lesser-nigh job or ane only higher up information technology.

When I and then do open Chrome information technology commonly says Chrome terminated abnormally, do I want to restore the pages that were and then open up?  I commonly also get the "You" window on that occasion (but).  This might happen twice in one day, but more usually at intervals of five days to a calendar week.  Going to Task Manager and ending the bottom Chrome task takes only seconds, so it's no large bargain.

I am, of course, curious about why the "abnormal termination" occurs.

The divergence is that to me, the problem only has happened a couple of times in the last six months or and then.   I take no idea, and cannot answer anything about why.  Hopefully someone knows something and can tell usa.

I had to clear the orphaned Chrome tasks in Task Manager iii times today, a new record.  I can't say what I did differently - I use Chrome to look things up, and usually if I encounter a link in a Facebook mail service information technology opens in Chrome, only I'm not aware of having done annihilation unusual today.  Installed a new update in Macrium Reflect, merely that shouldn't accept any interaction with Chrome?  Lots of Facebook action, started by other people, maybe that was it.  The imminent closing of Yahoogroups lists besides generated a lot of activity (I am owner or moderator of a number of those, generally dealing with dog genetics and/or canis familiaris beliefs).

Trouble SOLVED:

I had the same very annoying problem but finally found the cause and the solution.

The problem is conflict betwixt the antivirus (Kaspersky Net security in my case) and Malwarebytes antimalware.

The solution is either to add the chrome folder or the file chrome.exe to the exclusion listing in Malwarebytes  OR to Disable theRansomware Protection in Malwarebytes.

I Got the solution from this page: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/252725-kaspersky-antivirus-2020-alarm/?practise=findComment&comment=1343420

those solutions worked very well with me and at present Chrome and Firefox are working very usually and can be airtight and reopened many times with no problems at all.

Please give me your feedbacks.

I use Windows Defender antivirus and then have no third party AV software installed.  I exercise use Malwarebytes Premium, but have never (over the grade of a few years now) observed whatever conflicts with Windows Defender.  The Malwarebytes folks have a reasonable-sounding explanation for why that works without conflict.

I still occasionally have to re-get-go Chrome by ending one or more "orphaned" Chrome tasks in Job Manager.  The error message I get from Chrome, if I look, is that Chrome had ended abnormally.

Having to re-start Chrome once in every ii or three weeks, which seems to be about what I am seeing, is not much hardship.

I could put chrome.exe on the MB exclusion list and see if that makes a difference . . .
